This Week: Alzheimer’s Coachella Valley

Memory loss can change a household quietly at first. A missed appointment, a repeated question, a familiar routine that suddenly feels harder. Alzheimer’s Coachella Valley exists for those moments, offering local support for people living with cognitive impairment and for the families and care partners walking beside them.

The Palm Desert nonprofit provides education, support groups, social programs, and practical guidance for Coachella Valley families navigating dementia and memory loss. Their work stays close to home, which matters when families are trying to make sense of new questions, changing responsibilities, and the emotional weight that comes with caring for someone they love.

What makes this kind of help so important is that it gives people a place to start. Whether you are noticing early changes, already caring for a spouse or parent, or simply trying to understand what support is available, Alzheimer’s Coachella Valley offers a local door to knock on before things feel overwhelming.

If memory loss has touched your household, or someone close to you, keep this resource nearby.

This Week: Si Bon, Rancho Mirage

40101 Monterey Avenue, Suite E5, Rancho Mirage, CA

Si Bon is one of those Rancho Mirage restaurants that makes breakfast feel like a small vacation. The Belgian bistro serves weekday breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. and weekend brunch from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., which gives you plenty of room to plan around the heat instead of racing it.

The menu has the kind of comfort that works for a slow morning. There are Belgian waffles, homemade crêpes, eggs Benedict, omelets, and a Belgian-style breakfast with eggs, cubed fries, bacon or sausage, and Si Bon focaccia. It feels familiar enough to be easy, but just different enough to make the outing feel special.

If you go later in the day, the restaurant also has lunch, dinner, happy hour, and dessert menus, so it does not have to be only a breakfast stop. But in this weather, an early table sounds like the smartest move.

Hot days are hitting fixed-income seniors hard

KESQ recently reported on how valley seniors are using cooling centers to stay safe while managing high electricity costs. It is a timely reminder to check on neighbors, keep cooling-center options handy, and take the heat seriously before it becomes an emergency.
