This Week: Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine

Health worries can become heavier when someone does not have insurance, a regular doctor, or a clear place to turn. Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine helps fill that gap with no-cost medical care for adults across the valley who are uninsured.

The Indio health center treats the whole person, including chronic conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and arthritis, along with acute illnesses, preventive care, nutrition, and emotional health support. That kind of care can make a real difference for someone who has been putting off an appointment because the cost felt impossible.

The work also reaches beyond the clinic walls. Their homeless medical outreach teams bring care to unsheltered neighbors in the eastern Coachella Valley, with medical providers, social workers, translators, and volunteers working together in the field. It is practical, compassionate care delivered where people actually need it.

If you know someone who needs medical help but does not have insurance, this is a local resource worth sharing.

This Week: La Quinta Cliffhouse, La Quinta

78250 Highway 111, La Quinta, CA

La Quinta Cliffhouse has the kind of setting that makes dinner feel like a real desert evening. The restaurant sits built into the cliffside near the La Quinta cove, with a warm dining room, a cozy patio, and mountain views that do half the work before the first course arrives.

The menu stays classic in a way that fits the room. You will find steak, pasta, fresh seafood, and a wine list built for a longer dinner, not a rushed plate. It is the sort of place where a table of friends can settle in, order something familiar but nicely done, and let the conversation carry the evening.

If you prefer to avoid the hottest part of the day, this is a good one to save for dinner. Let the sun drop, take the scenic drive, and make the meal the outing.

Senior heat costs are hitting hard

Extreme heat can be expensive, especially for older adults trying to manage air-conditioning bills on fixed incomes. Keep cooling centers, library hours, and senior-center options in mind before the hottest part of the day.
