This Week: Jewish Family Service of the Desert

Sometimes the hardest part of aging at home is not one large emergency. It is the smaller things beginning to pile up: a missed ride, an empty refrigerator, a medical appointment, or too many quiet days without company.
Jewish Family Service of the Desert helps older adults across the Coachella Valley manage those moments. Despite the name, the organization serves the Jewish and general community, welcoming people of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds.
JFS provides weekly check-in calls to isolated seniors, helps arrange food deliveries, and connects homebound residents with Friendly Visitor volunteers. Its JFS Express program also provides transportation to medical appointments and other medically necessary activities.

For older adults who need more support, case managers can help identify benefits, complete applications, find community resources, and access emergency financial assistance. The organization also runs Let’s Do Lunch, a social program with lectures, workshops, films, art projects, brain games, exercise, and entertainment.
If you or someone close to you could use a friendly call, transportation help, or guidance through a difficult situation, keep this number nearby.

This Week: Keedy’s Fountain & Grill, Palm Desert

73-633 Highway 111, Palm Desert, CA
Some restaurants try to look retro. Keedy’s Fountain & Grill does not have to try. The original Palm Desert location has been serving the Coachella Valley since 1957, and it still feels like the kind of breakfast counter where regulars know exactly what they are ordering before they sit down.
The hot cakes are the signature move, especially when breakfast calls for something simple, warm, and familiar. You will also find Keedy’s Fix, classic egg breakfasts, burgers, sandwiches, and old-fashioned milkshakes.
Summer timing works nicely here. Keedy’s opens at 6 a.m. every day, so you can get breakfast, enjoy a little conversation, and finish before the worst of the heat arrives.
This is not the place for a complicated morning. It is the place for hot coffee, a reliable breakfast, and the feeling that some good local traditions are still going strong.
