This Week: Desert Best Friend’s Closet

Sometimes getting back to work begins with a simple question: What am I going to wear? Desert Best Friend’s Closet helps Coachella Valley residents answer that question while preparing for the bigger steps that follow.
The Palm Desert nonprofit provides one-on-one wardrobe consultations and professional clothing for people preparing for interviews and new employment. Its Bridge to Employment program goes further with help writing resumes, completing applications, practicing interviews, and building confidence for the workplace.

The organization has helped nearly 2,000 clients since opening its service site in 2010. Its resale boutique also gives local shoppers a place to find affordable clothing while helping fund programs for job seekers.
This is especially useful for older adults returning to work after retirement, caregiving, illness, or an extended absence. Clothing donations, volunteers, boutique shoppers, and financial support all help keep the programs available.

This Week: La Tablita, Cathedral City

68369 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Cathedral City, CA
La Tablita is the kind of colorful neighborhood restaurant where lunch can easily stretch into another round of conversation. The dining room feels warm and festive, with Mexican artwork, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere for a casual meal with family or friends.
The menu is built around familiar Mexican favorites, including sizzling fajitas, enchiladas, street tacos, and handcrafted margaritas. On a hot afternoon, the shrimp cocktail is especially tempting, with fresh shrimp, crisp vegetables, avocado, and bright Mexican flavors. The ceviche tostada offers another refreshing choice when a heavy meal does not sound right.

🤝 Senior-to-senior home care opens valleywide

☄️ Perseids peak under moonless desert skies
The richest viewing is expected before dawn on Thursday, August 13. The night of August 12 into 13 should be dark and moonless. A reclining chair, water, patience, and a spot away from city lights are more useful than a telescope.
